Mes amis… 🧨 Pocket Detonations No. 2: Otto Gross and the Thousand-Headed Spirit from our Bacchus Editions is fresh off the machines, et j’adore how it turned out!
As most of you know, Otto’s ideas et life became one of the originating forces behind German Expressionism, Dada, et much of twentieth-century counterculture itself. Many years spent researching, translating et wandering around Otto’s world made this second Pocket Detonation a total joy to put together.
Inside the book you’ll find remnants of newly translated writings from the archive, rare photographs, et the monstrous journey anarchist-psychoanalyst Otto Gross’ life became while evading the thousand-headed spirit of authority. A century later that monster is still busy
diagnosing, classifying, collecting, correcting, et forever attempting to explain away people who refuse to stay where they are put, or who insist upon
belonging chiefly to themselves…
The whole affair is accompanied by Otto’s own visual atmosphere through German Expressionist and Symbolist works by Alfred Kubin, Ernst Kirchner, Walter Gramatté, Auguste Rodin, et others.
I imagine more than a few readers here have crossed paths with the thousand- headed spirit already. It has been wandering the halls for a very long time.
This little detonation grew quite a bit along the way. What began with the request of “an approximately thirty-two-page Pocket Detonation on Otto” insisted on becoming a ninety-page PUR-bound volume. Je n’ai pas résisté !
I love the cream text paper the inner pages are on, via frenchpaper… I must say, Pocket Detonations are becoming one of my favourite little Bacchus projects. They are a perfect way of passing along remnants ofthe larger
translation adventures, curious archival discoveries, et all the people and ideas that continue wandering beside us long after the research ends..
Enough from me. 🧨 Pocket Detonations No. 2, Otto Gross and the Thousand-Headed Spirit, is available now in a limited first edition.
