The Unfinished Individual: In Conversation with Oscar Wilde’s The Soul of Man under Socialism is now available for pre-order through Bacchus Editions.
Voilà. The new book includes Oscar Wilde’s complete The Soul of Man under Socialism alongside my own philosophical writings in conversation with one of the great writings on Individualism…
One unexpected part of the project deserves mentioning here! The versions of The Soul of Man under Socialism found on Marxists.org, Project Gutenberg, Wikisource, in countless pamphlets, zines, et many academic publications mostly descend from the same incorrect transcription, copied repeatedly rather than returned to Wilde’s original writing of 1891. In several cases, editions even identify the original publication as their source, despite clearly having been copied from later transcriptions. In the process, words changed et disappeared, paragraphs were rearranged, authorial italics were lost, et so editorial decisions gradually came to be treated as though they belonged to Wilde himself.
Psst: Within AL too~ But no worries for my beloved Anarchist Library. I will be wandering over there next to share the restored transcription.
Ariel et Marina at our Bacchus have written a little update for The Unfinished Individual over on the Bacchus Editions blog, so make your way over there.
The limited edition first pressing has come off the Heidelberg GTO 52, it looks perfect. It is being trimmed et bound as I type this from lovely Gabriola, BC. Quel plaisir! The Unfinished Individual: In Conversation with Oscar Wilde’s The Soul of Man under Socialism is available to order now et begins mailing on August 9th.
There is something rather lovely about finally writing the companion I had always hoped to read.
Retour à la mer… et à faire un peu de malice…
Back to the sea and making trouble for me,
XO, Fíona
P.S. If we have interacted through Distinctively Dionysian, Madame Simone, or your own projects, do send me a little private note via riseup or Bacchus when you order from Bacchus Editions, so I can slip a few extra treats into your parcel… or, à défaut, let Ariel et Marina know to do the same if I’m not there.
